Season Premiere - featuring The Resonant Rogues

The season's first trip is always a tingly, exciting outing because we've been looking forward to it and working to make everything just right to start the season with the ship beaming, fresh, and ready for adventure.

And, this season, we’re starting - literally - on a high note. The Resonant Rogues will be aboard this trip, playing their wonderful “folk noir” after dinner that “weaves the threads of Appalachian folk, Swing Manouche, Vintage Country, and Euro folk together” into a wonderfully interesting fusion that takes the past into the future, just like we do with our ship.

They craft “fresh songs from a variety of vintage folk styles, featuring vocal harmonies accompanied by accordion, guitar, banjo, fiddle, and upright bass “ It’s going to be a wonderful way to kick off the season!

We'll have new recipes to show off that've been tinkered with, tasted and tested; new routes to explore and coves to visit - and the whole area will be abuzz with the excitement of sailing season.

If you're excited to kick off your summer, then there's no better way to do it than a sailing vacation with fine food aboard, explorations ashore, hospitality all around and The Resonant Rogues.

Gam Week - featuring Miners Creek

What is a Schooner Gam?

A Gam is where one boat ties up to the other so they create a small, floating world.

On this week the schooners will anchor in a harbor together one evening and you will be able to visit all the other boats and meet your fellow windjammers.

"Schooner Party" explains it nicely. Maine is one of the only places in the world where you can see 12 Schooners of this magnitude in the same harbor.

This gathering is to celebrate the unique living maritime culture of Maine; bringing the boats together so that you see them for yourself and celebrate with us, our sailor's life and the coast of Maine.

Local band, Miners Creek will be aboard for this Maine sailing vacation and, for the "Schooner Gam," they'll likely be joined by musicians from other ships! It will be great fun and a literal gathering of fellowship!

Miners Creek play Contemporary Bluegrass at its best; they meld Bluegrass with pop, rock, jazz, folk, Latin, Appalachian, gospel and blues.  To learn more about them, click their picture.

The magical experience of gathering together on deck while the music wafts through the harbor is a truly unforgettable memory. Join us for this doubly-special trip.

June Zoom: Music Cruise

We've got numerous cruises featuring fine acoustic musicians. They travel with us for the whole cruise and play for us on select evenings after dinner.

We don't know yet who's playing on this cruise, but we want to let you know to get excited for it. These cruises are part of our Summer Concert Series that we call Sea Great Music.

To give you an idea of the talent and tone of Sea Great Music, click here to see the list of folks already set to perform. You can click their links to see their concert pages, to learn about them and hear their music.

The performances are intimate and wonderful. Each is an hour or so, often longer because folks keep asking for more, but you can just as easily fall asleep to it from your cabin if you like. Either way, it's a lovely way to end your day after a sail, and a completely unique way to get to know an artist.

Songwriting Music Cruise with Linda McRae

Last year's cruise with Linda was such a hit that she's back again for 2020!  We welcome you to bring your instruments and jam with Nashville artist Linda McRae. Performing on banjo, guitar and accordion her warm and world-weary voice, unforgettable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, make McRae a captivating and sought-after artist.

"It was fun, educational, picture worthy, emotional and exhilarating to be on the ship and then to engage musically as a songwriter with brilliant McRae and all the other writers and sailors from all over the continent... "

If you don't play, don't be shy, come anyway! There will be evening performances, and beautiful sailing and island exploring, something for everyone.

There will be limited spaces available for a songwriting course (+$200pp) led by Linda. If you are interested, please ask!

Boothbay Windjammer Festival

This gathering of ships is pure celebration. Boothbay has a real sweet spot for windjammers. It's a town that strives to honor its maritime history and enjoys celebrating the prominent role such endeavors still play in the lives of so many who live here.

This festival is brought to fruition by volunteers and this year's event will be the 58th festival!

Conditions were right in the summer of 2019 to put us there for the first time in ten years and we we swarmed with an impromptu flotilla of welcoming boats and celebratory greetings!

Exploring the area, feasting along the way, and going ashore here and there like we do is going to be highlighted by the hearty welcome of this seaside town. Boothbay Windjammer Festival; it's going to be special.

Keep Exploring

We carry smaller sailboats

and row boats with us.

When we anchor for the day, your exploring can continue.

Imagine gliding about before dinner or taking in a beautiful sunset while quietly rowing along a scenic cove: Magical moments.

If you don't know how to sail, one of our crew will gladly take you out for a fun exploration of our day's chosen cove.

July Cruises

The Great Schooner Race is a local event that celebrates the culture of sailing and wooden boats that is present and strong in Maine even today.

Join us for a week of cruising islands and outdoor adventure that culminates with The Great Schooner Race.  The whole of the Schooner fleet, and often more, will be invited to Race a full day's course with a good dose of friendly competition.

The finish line is the Rockland Breakwater lighthouse, but the fun doesn't end there. There's a party in Rockland where all the schooner guests, crew and captains get to meet up for a BBQ together.

This trip will Feature a parade of the Schooner Fleet, a full moon and a later return time of 3pm to our wharf.

Being a 5 night cruise means we'll be exploring far into our sailing waters and enjoying a nice run of fantastic food and desserts made fresh aboard, everyday.

Which means you’ll be taking a lot of pictures. A. Lot.

That’s why this is the perfect cruise for us to host a Photography workshop!

It’s an optional treat; you can sign up when you book, or when you board.

Aboard for this cruise will be photographers Kerry Hayes and Jesse Stuart. Both sailed with us last year. Jesse hosted a workshop to rave reviews and Kerry’s reputation makes him a welcome addition and a sure treat!

Kerry is a feature film photographer. You’ve likely seen his celebrity portraits and promotional stills. He’s also conducted a workshop for Maine Media in Rockport for years.

This course will provide the opportunity for anyone who loves photography to learn the “Art of Seeing” from Kerry, one of today’s top artist/professionals, and offer Jesse’s one-on-one technical support with cameras and individual photos.

This “two for the price of one” experience will improve your skills as well as create memorable photographs while sailing and shooting Maine’s famously rugged, beautiful coast and picturesque villages.

Click Kerry’s picture to learn more about him and this wonderful workshop we put together for you.

Workshop fee is 200, that will be added to your cruise at the time of booking or once you’re aboard when you get all excited to take part!

*This Trip Boards in Rockland and Disembarks in Portland.*

This trip is a rare chance to explore the coast all the way down to Portland, where Victory Chimes hasn't been in 50 years!

Our destination of Portland will be host to a gathering of Tall Ships that's a premier feature of Maine's Bicentennial celebration. Portland's "Old Port" will be bustling with celebrations among all the shops and restaurants, and tours of all the participating ships will be available.

Bicentennial celebrations don't happen very often - (why is that? they're such fun!) - so being a big part of this event, literally, is going to be a Once-In-A-Lifetime trip on top of being a Bucket List adventure voyage.

And - Mike & Amy Aiken are sailing with us on this trip! They are Grammy nominated artists, licensed sea captains and weave their adventurous life into music that's been described as "Americana, Folk and Roots with an ocean view." Click their picture to learn more!

If you've never sailed with us, you're going to be so wowed by the adventure, impressed by the food, affected by the music and overjoyed at your choice of this trip, that you're going to run out of film, fill your phone and be exhausted from smiling. If you have sailed with us before, you won't be exhausted from smiling because you've been training for this trip.

*This Trip Boards in Portland and Disembarks in Rockland.*

If you've driven Route 1 from Portland to Rockland, either after landing there on a flight to Maine or as the last leg of your drive from further south, you might think you've seen what Maine has to offer on that route.

You haven't.

There's (so much) more to that stretch of Maine than the big service plaza in Kennebunkport or a stop in Freeport to visit LL Bean - and we're going to explore it. Thoroughly.

All the while, we'll have "the novelty, creativity, and joy of music" that is Ben Van Winkle. He's an accomplished cellist, lyricist and composer, achieving an amazing variety of styles and emotions with his instrument and voice. Click his picture to learn more.

This trip will rewrite what you think you know about Maine, and the cello! We'll end at our homeport, and gem of the midcoast, Rockland.

This is our longest trip of the season, so you're going to explore more of Secret Maine, eat more of our tasty and renowned meals, and enjoy more time sailing - than any other trip this season.

Is that a Bald Eagle?! Yup, there are many in the area. Wow.

Yes, you don’t have to be “into bird watching” to enjoy seeing the birds of the Maine Coast during this cruise. We bet you will be by the end of this cruise though.

Last year, during the Biodiversity Research Institute’s (BRI) inaugural cruise, the group logged 35 species of birds - five different species of gull alone! - five species of marine mammals, and many sightings of the uniquely shaped ocean sunfish!

This year’s cruise is longer and so we’re bound to see even more!

We’ll have marine bird expert Iain Stenhouse aboard. He’ll be  a wonderful expert resource for sightings and sharing his passion for seabirds and the islands of Maine.

With all the scenery and birdwatching going on, you may find that pictures just aren’t enough to really capture the experience. We’ll also feature a writing workshop with BRI’s Deborah McKew.

As with all our cruises, you will see wondrous sights, sail along picturesque islands and be spoiled with fine meals - but this one will be even more special because you’ll likely end up appreciating Maine’s rugged beauty and natural diversity even more.

Dyado sailed with us in 2019. They were a joy, and they're back with us again! Their nightly performances had everyone on deck, entranced by their touching harmonies, asking for more and more!

Cousins Matt Lohan and Louisa Stancioff, from North Carolina, make up the duo of Dyado and they're an eclectic indie rock and folk duo. They play

creative original and traditional songs, all in glorious harmony.

Between Matt's sailing experience, where he eagerly jumped in to help the crew, and Louisa's daytime playing with Cara, that wasn't even part of the schedule, they were great fun to have aboard.

Matt even took the Captain's dory for a hearty sail after we anchored for the day and had everyone cheering him on as he zipped and tacked about in the day's gusty winds!

This heartfelt duo is sure to be good company again, and as excited as you to enjoy our Maine coast sailing experience.

On this cruise, in the gold of August, we'll be featuring Dennis Warner. He sailed with us last summer to rave reviews and so he's earned a welcome return!

Beyond his musicianship - playing both six and twelve string guitars - he's a very interesting person to be around. He's also an author whose book about bullying and connectedness is used in elementary schools across the country.

Dennis's reputation for connecting with his audience is no exaggeration, and that's one of the compelling perks of our Sea Great Music Summer Concert Series; getting to spend time with artists in a unique and fun, social way.

Our cruises are as much about people as place, and having interesting people like Dennis on board can really add to a trip without a single song being sung. Imagine how much more fun you'll have on this cruise because you'll get more than just a single song - there's the great food, the island excursions, the sailing, the scenery, the sunsets. It's truly going to be golden!

Maine Golden hour sailing vacation.jpg

Beat the heat and loll in the breezes! No matter how hot it gets on shore, it's always cooler on the water.

The islands are nice too, always catching the sea breezes, so we'll be going ashore wherever we happen to be. The wind and tides set our itinerary, so you'll enjoy the indulgence of "Chimes" time, which has no schedule but the meals.

Three times a day you'll be spoiled with fine food and the whole time gathered together to share the joy of summer sailing off the coast of Maine.

Our trips are a pure experience of wind and sea; the music of sailing and the beauty of the sea.

Deep Summer Cooldown Cruise

Base Price: $850 per person

In the deep of August, beautiful boats fill Maine’s coastal waters in the day and stars fill the skies at night. The air is mild and the sunsets glow warmly. We sometimes have dinner on deck and watch as the sun's showy finale dims to the darkest blue of dusk.

Every spot on deck is front row to the best of Maine. Don't miss it.

It’s then on this trip that, that the crickets come out - the Chivalrous Crickets!

This artful acoustic band interweaves traditional music of the British isles, Celtic nations, and Appalachia with ancient european art song.

August tends to be warmer and be less gusty than other months. But what it lacks in wind is made up for with more leisurely sails, sweet Maine sunshine and a pace that oozes Vacation Mode.

Time to tan and read your book, have a stroll on an island and eat a delicious meal on deck; an ideal chance for swimming right off the ship or taking one of our smaller boats out for a row or a sail in our day's chosen cove.

These trips turn the summer into magic and the charming musical performances will be a lovely complement to your maritime experience aboard our historic ship. To learn more about them, click their picture!

Chivalrous Crickets in Maine.jpg

These six night cruises mean we get to go further out among the islands and deeper down into the archives of adventure - and this time - deeper into the playlists of a wonderfully unique artist.

Secret Maine is also unique; it's what we call all those harbors, seaside villages, island sights and cozy coves that you just can't see any other way but from aboard.  And Sea Great Music is our name for when acoustic musicians travel with us and play in the evenings at sunset.

The best way to see the beauty of the rugged Maine coast is from the water. Sailing with us offers a special way to ply the lesser knowns of our great state, the often best of Maine, Secret Maine.

Our cruises also offer a special way to enjoy music.

Join us for this Explorer's Edition of a sailing cruise vacation; a six-night excursion heading out far into the area's renowned sailing waters. All the while, being pampered with fine food, wonderful accommodations

and the sweet music of Chicago born singer songwriter, Heather Styka.

Heather Styka who dances where others fear to tread, gleefully cuts to the truth with gutsy vulnerability. She combines the lyrical intricacy of folk with a catchy melodic pop sensibility and the grit of classic country in songs that are smart and disarming. Her witty acoustic music promises to add a special touch to this deeper adventure of our Maine Coast.

Wooden Boat Sail-In

Wooden Boats! Maine is full of them; it is one of the things that makes this place so special. On this week, the windjammer fleet will sail into Wooden Boat harbor, and the Wooden boat school of Brooklin Maine will invite us to stroll through their beautiful grounds, tour the school and have steamed mussels with them.

It is a gathering they hold for the windjammers every year, offering an opportunity to see the fleet underway, and it's a beautiful Maine tradition.

On this trip, we're even adding more to the sights - by adding sound; Randy Clepper will be aboard (again!)

Randy will be joining Cara for some wonderful renditions of folk and traditional tunes from her wide and storied travels. When they played together last season it was a sweetly moving memory. We were at anchor in a scenic cove, it was after dinner and we were all on deck, enjoying the deepening dusk.

Imagine it: cozily aboard this grand old ship when magically, with the subtlety of baking bread filling a house with its aroma, wonderful tunes come into the air and a great day becomes a special day.

Last season, when we thought - "wow, we should do this again," we weren't kidding! C
