Victory Chimes Commemorative Maine State Quarter Release
Cache
Here’s one you won’t find from the US Mint! This is a
special very limited commemorative envelope celebrating the Victory
Chimes appearance on the Maine State Quarter. These envelopes feature
a beautiful “Old Glory” 37-cent American Flag postage stamp
with three special cancellations commemorating the historic day that
the Maine State Quarter was released. The envelope features a special
illustration and narrative, explaining how the design of the schooner
Victory Chimes, sailing by the Pemaquid Lighthouse, originated. There
is also a short description of the vessel. Each envelope will include
a Rockland, Maine Post Office cancellation. Rockland is known as “The
Windjammer Capitol of the World.” A Rockland family came up with
the design that the people of Maine voted for to represent their state
quarter. The Rockland postmark (Not yet shown on this illustration)
will feature a June 2nd, 2003 cancellation, the day the U.S. Mint released
the new Maine Quarters to banks. But for you hardcore philatelists – we
are including two special Shipboard cancellations
that are available nowhere else other than aboard the American National
Historic Landmark
schooner, Victory Chimes. One is for the June 2,
2003 Mint Release date, the second is a shipboard issue cancellation
that features a
likeness of the quarter. Each envelope comes with
an uncirculated Maine State Quarter in a 2x3” plastic case that features the Maine
State Flag and the date Maine entered the union. Each of these is further
stamped on the reverse of the flag with the Shipboard Issue cancellation.
